Alvechurch Lions versus North Birmingham Celtic
First match of the season was away to North Birmingham Celtic. Early morning meet at 9am, everybody was there on time and raring to go. Arrived at ground nice and early and got straight into the warm up session, with the lads chomping at the bit.
With callum in goal and a 4_4_2 layout we were ready for the whistle. The whistle went at 10.30 and a roar came from the parents on the side line " COME ON THE LIONS!" Jack Preston opened our goal account with a strike from just inside the 18 yard box and with half time looming all was tense and then came the whistle, with Lions in the lead!
A quick team talk to lift the lads ready for the second half, but within a few minutes of the second half starting North Birmingham pulled it back to 1_1. However the lads heads didn't drop, if anything it made them more determined. As a result with so much pressure on Celtic, they were forced into a own goal from a corner! The parents errupted and with fingers crossed and only a few minutes to play there was a long ball played up back into our own half! Then Callum pulled off a match winning save giving Lions a 2_1 victory over Celtic! The crowd errupted and you would have thought the boys had won the Premiership! What a fantastic start to the season. The boys were all congratulated and our goal scorer Jack got the parents man of the match, with Matt Lee getting managers player for his solid performance throughout, in defence. A big thank you to Cas for running the line.
COME ON YOU LIONS! ! !
