MATCH REPORTS

20/04/08

Game 1 - Lions 3 (Reiss 2, Kota) Glades 0

Game 2 - Lions 2 (Samson 2) Glades 0

Supporters Man of the Match         Oliver 'Rocket' Race

Managers Man of the Match           Oscar 'JT' Malt

After suffering our first defeat in this division, the boys returned to form in style to win both games in this 'double header' fixture.

The men of the match awards went to Ollie Race and Oscar Malt. Ollie had by far his best game for the Lions and showed the kind of form he often shows in training. It was great to see him flying into tackles and having the confidence to run with the ball as well as his usual neat passing.

Oscar was incredible! He showed first class postitional play and some quite amazing tackling skills to snuff out virtually every attack the Glades made. At one point a glades player twice the size of Ossie burst through with only Ossie to beat. Ossie waiting for his chance then hit him with a perfectly timed crunching tackle, winning the ball and leaving the player grounded. The other players face reminded me of the old Tango adverts......'You know when you've been Oscar-ed' I thought!

Game 1

The Lions took an early lead when 'Rambo' Reiss showed great strength and detemination to turn a rebound in after the goallie could only parry a long range 'Rocket' Race shot. The boys dominated the game with the 'Skipper' Samson running the show in midfield, with the two Ollie's and Louis providing great support. Up front Reiss was running the defenders ragged and the defenders Oscar, Ben and Kota were adopting a none shall pass approach.

The second half saw the further goals that the boys performance deserved. For the second time this season, Reiss was alert to a short goal kick, robbed the defender and drilled the ball home from the edge of the box. This was shortly followed by 'King' Kota making it 3. Sneaking forward at the far post for a corner he received a nice little ball from Oliver D to calmly slot home in the bottom corner.

Game 2

The Lions carried on in Game 2 where the left off in Game 1, again taking an early lead.

Excellent work by Reiss bursting up right wing, who got to the by-line before looking up to pick out Samson in the box. Samson who had made a great run, virtually the length of the pitch to get forward, stroked the ball home first time.

The Lions continued to dominate but had to wait for the second half before extending the lead. Samson raced cleared on to a long ball out of defence and scored with a lovely angled shot in to the bottom corner.

Glades managed to breach our tremendous defence defence in the last the minute but Kian raced out to make an brilliant and brave save. There was no way he was going to give up his clean sheet!

Great work boys!!

Game 1 - Lions 1 (Oliver Draper) Maypole 0

Game 2 - Lions 0  Maypole 0

Supporters Man of the Match         Oliver '3 Lungs' Draper

Managers Man of the Match           'Brave as a lion' Kian Bateman

The Lions kept up their good run with another 2 good results in another double header. The results in both games were greatly affected by the men of the match.

'3 Lungs' Draper put in an awesome demonstration of midfield play. In addition to his usual high energy, his tackling and determination to make every ball his was tremendous. Having won the ball he used it well with accurate passes from both feet. And to top it all he got his first goal for the club.

Kian was once again tremendous in goal. Keeping clean sheets is difficult at any level but to keep 4 clean sheets on the trot at this level is just amazing. His reading of dangerous situations and bravery in snuffing out those situations was first class. This lad is so so talented - way past his years.

Game 1

The Lions started very brightly and took a deserved early lead. After some good work on the left by 'Rambo' Reiss the ball fell to Samson whose shot was well blocked only for '3 Lungs' Draper to pounce on the loose ball to bury it in the far corner.

Maypole pressed forward looking for an equiliser but it would have taken something special to get past Kian. Levi who was moved into defence for this game was using his great power and strength to keep things tight at the back. He was abely supported by Oscar, who continued his excellent form with some perfectly timed tackles.
