MATCH REPORTS

Sunday 24th February 2008

Alvechurch Lions v Northfield Warriors

Lions lined up with Joe in goal, Alex and Jacob in defence, Scott, Jay and Ciaran in midfield and Jim in attack with Hiram sub.

Lions defended superbly against a strong Warriors side but defended superbly in the first half.  Joe was busy in goal but his safe hands meant he never spilled a shot and Alex and Jake were excellent at the back, tackling and blocking attacks bravely and defending very well.  Scott was running the midfield, tracking back, tackling and running all over the pitch, he was assisted really well by Jay and Ciaran who marked well and broke forward when needed. Up front Jim was lively and dangerous, collecting the ball and either beating his man or linking play and passing to others. At half-time it was 0-0.

It was a tail of two halves and the second half was slightly disappointing.  After all the hard work in the 1st half Warriors bossed the second half.  Concentration and work-rate seemed to disappear and again we were left exposed at the back by midfielders not chasing the ball once we lost possession and instead strolling back.

Final score 0-8.

Best not to dwell on the second half which sums up most of our performances this seaon, not tracking back and it generally looking like the other team want to win more, which is worrying.  We have the talent and skill but need the desire and work-rate of other teams.

The first half was a great effort from all and showed what we can do with everyone playing as a team and working their socks off.

We need to decide which team we want to be, if we play like we have in the 1st half of the last 2 games we will win more games.
Play like we have in the second halves and it is difficult to see where the next win will come from.

We have been 2-0 up and drawing our last 2 games at half time but seem to forget what we need to do in the 2nd half.  Lets put a performance on for the whole game, keep chasing, working and running for the ball if we lose it and the wins will come.

Glebe Farm Colts v Alvechurch Lions

Lions started with Joe in goal, Alex and Jake at the back, Scott, Jim and Jay in midfield and Jordan up front with Ciaran sub.

After a chat about starting the game better and not conceding early Lions started the game brilliantly.  Scott and Jim both scored in the first half and Lions were unlucky not to have gone in further in front than 2-0.  The defence looked assured amd the midfield were working hard with deadline day signing Jay having his best game in a Lions shirt and Jordans power and pace a constant threat up top.  At half-time the lads were rightly ecstatic but it seemed we thought the game was already won.

From kick-off Lions nearly stretched the lead further with Jordan going close.  With 10 minutes gone Lions still seemed in control until a 5 minute lapse in concentration cost them dearly.  We seemed to switch off and forget our positions as Glebe scored 3 in quick succession.  It only takes one player to lose concentration for a second for the oppossition to score and it cost us dearly.

Final Score 3-2 to Glebe.  A heartbreaking result and it was not for lack of trying by the team.  Remember to always look around and behind you for opposition players making runs and if you see someone not marked or not marking then tell them.  We are a team so lets communicate and talk to our team-mates if we see something on the pitch that needs doing like marking.

A really good effort and it proves we can mix it with the higher placed teams and perform o a high standard - if we do that all game and don't switch off we will soon start to climb the table.

Alvechurch Lions v West Hagley

Lions had a full squad to choose from as they welcomed West Hagley, who are flying high at the top of the table and very well organised team.

We knew West Hagley were a very good team and this was going to be a tough game and so it proved.  West Hagley scored within a minute with some excellent 2-touch passing football and this set the pattern for the game.

Unusually Lions were making it hard for themselves at the back, diving in and committing too often and getting caught out.  It is great that we have the bravery and passion to put in big tackles but we also need to use our head as well as our hearts.  We work on jockeying and not committing ourselves when defending in training and it looks like we need to do some more work on this.

We are starting to become more aware of our positions and hold positions instead of all getting dragged to the ball and that will improve with time and games.

It is no coincidence that West Hagley pass and move the ball quickly and do not get caught dribbling with the ball.  If we can get out of the habit of wanting to dribble first and instead control the ball, lift our head to play a simple pass then move for the return I guarantee the goals and results will start to come.

Once again congratulations to the whole team for battling on to the end and with a few improvements and a bit of discipline we will get the results our effort deserves.

Smithswood v Alvechurch Lions

After an extended break the Lions were eager to get back plating football again and had a full strength squad with the exception of Hiram, who was missing through illness.  Joe in goal, Alex and Jake at the back, Sean holding in midfield with Jim and Scott playing wide and Jordan up front.

Lions started brightly and were trying to play flowing football but finding it difficult on a very heavy pitch.  A move in the first couple of minutes with Scott and Jim linking well put Jordan in who was unlucky not to score.  Smithswood then took the lead when again the curse of our midfield not tracking back left their man open on the wing to deliver a cross which was converted well.  This was followed by a second direct from a free kick which rocketed in to the net leaving Joe no chance.

Lions were continuing to create chances but were unable to make the breakthrough.  Ciaran and Jay came on with fresh legs before half-time to try and snatch a goal but at half-time it was 2-0.

Almost from kick-off the Lions got back in the game.  Scott bursting in to the box after some sustained pressure and slamming the ball home.  Lions continued to pressurise the home goalmouth but could not get a deserved equalier.  As can often happen when a team goes chasing an equalier, Smithswood broke with time nearly up and scored two goals in quick sussession for the gane to finish 4-1.

The game was closer than the score suggests and credit to the lads for getting back in the game in the second half, on another day it could have been a different result.

West Hagley v Alvechurch Lions

Lions lined up with the same starting 7 as against Wychall, with Ciaran back from holiday on the bench.

Against the best side in the division it was always going to be a hard game but the Lions showed great determination and effort in the opening 15 minutes.  Alex and Jake were under pressure at the back against Hagley's flowing football but were defending excellently with blocks and last ditch challenges. On the occassions they were undone Joe was on fine form, pushing shots over the bar or diving low to save.  He was also commanding his area well, punching crosses and racing off his line to tackle at the first sign of danger.

At the other end a lovrly run and pass by Jim send Jordan through, he got his shot away under pressure only to see it hit a post and roll along the line.  Jordan followed up like a good striker should but it was scrambled off the line by their goalie and defender.  Lions went close on several other occasion, Scott again boxing above his weight in the middle.  Hiram was helping out at the back and made several vital tackles as the game went from end to end.

Hagley eventually got the breakthrough with a long range striek that went through a mass of players and left Joe unsighted.  Hagley added further goals at the end of the half to go in a rather fortunate 5- 0 up.

It would be a test of character in the second half as we had been in this situation before and some of the players lost interest and given up.  Not this time though, all the lads battled on and never gave up.

Hagley continued to impress with their quick passing and moving and were creating more and more chances.  It really is a mark of what we need to aim for, quick passing and moving and players holding their position.  I honestly believe we have the players to do this and in time we will learn when to pass, when to make runs and when to hold our position.  It comes withh experience and the lads will pick it up the more they play together.

A quick note on supporters man of the mach.  The score may show Joe let in lots of goals but he was superb today, I have not seen a better keeper in our league all season and he continues to improve.

Wychall Wanderers v Alvechurch Lions.

Alvechurch lined up with Joe in goal, Alex and Jake at the back, Scott, Jim and Hiram in midfield and Jordan upfront. With no subs on a heavy pitch against a well organised team it was going to be a difficult game.

To Lions credit they had the 'Lions' share of the first half and tested the keeper on numerous occassions but luck was against us and the goal we deserved wasn't coming.  At the other end the defence was again solid and although I say it every week it needs saying again, Joe was solid, brave and made several superb saves.

Scott was playing his best game for Lions, passing the ball brilliantly and keeping everything ticking along in the middle of the park.  It's no coincidence that when Scott plays well and passes the ball quickly the whole team look a better side, he is that important to the way we play.

The Lions eventually went down went down 3-0 to Wychall but played the best football they have all season and were extremely unlucky.  I may be biased but I truly believe we were the better team and played the better football.  Credit to Wychall, they were the ones who put the ball in the net but it is encouraging to see the lads play so well.

Sunday 18th November

Alvechurch Lions v Warriors

Lions lined up with Joe in goal, Alex and Jake in defence, Jim, Scott and Hiram in midfield and Jordan upfront.  With only the bare 7 it was going to be a difficult game, made harder by horrendous conditions and a stamina sapping pitch.  After the last disappointing performance it was up to the lads to prove me wrong........boy was I wrong!!!!!

After an impressive warm up the lads looked focused and ready and started the game off superbly.  The midfield controlling the play with a high tempo, the defence looking composed and assured.  Alex showed his John Terry captaincy skills by playing through the pain barrier and never letting the oppostion near the 'box'.  Jake was excellent in his first game at the back and tackled fearlessly.

At the other end Jordan was running riot up front with good movement and clever passing.  Scott was his usual all action self, tackling and dribbling well and creating chances for the team when passing the ball.  Jim was causing havoc on the wing, cutting inside with mazy runs and was unlucky not to score on numerous occassions in the first half.  Hiram was supporting the attack well, getting in the box and coming close several times to opening his account.

By half-time Jordan had scored 5 goals, including a goal straight from a corner and also proving he listened to instructions to follow up shots by profiting twice doing this and showing a real strikers instinct.  Scott also scored a corker after a surging run and powerful finish in the bottom corner from outside the box to go in 6 - 0 up at halftime.

Positions were changed for the 2nd half to allow Alex and Jake to move further forward and get more action with Jordan and Scott slotting in well at the back.

The second half was again dominated by the Lions, who ignored the polar conditions and freezing temperature to show a steely determination.  Joe, who had been a spectator in the first half and could easily have lost concentration was called in to action and saved bravely at the forwards feet with a triple save.

At the other end Jake opened his account for the Lions with a well taken turn and shot as did Hiram with a long distance curler from outside the box.  Alex popped up in the 'box' to score with a subtle flick and Jim's hard work and skill proved too much as he beat 3 defenders, nutmegged a penguin and stroked a sublime goal in to the corner.  He completed his hat-trick with equal strikes.

A superb team effort in appalling weather.  Older teams had left the ground in tears due to the cold but our lads stayed focused and strong and showed real courage and bravery.  Our first clean sheet of the season was a great team achievement and very pleasing.  Everybody played well and it was the most difficult game yet to pick players for special mention but the two below fully deserved their awards.

Alvechurch Lions v West Hagley

Lions continued their cup exploits against West Hagley after a great performance in the previous round against Holy Souls.  Starting with Joe in goal, AJ and Alex in defence, Jake, Jim and Scott in midfield, Jordan up front and Ciaran sub.

West Hagley started strongly and were a well organised side.  Lions battled in the first half but something seemed to be missing.  There was no passing and no movement and the team looked tired and lethargic.  Ciaran replaced Jordan to try and liven things up but at half-time Lions were 3 - 0 down.

After discussing our need to pass the ball, move for the ball and show some belief the second half started.  Unfortunately Lions heads soon dropped as West Hagley scored 2 goals in as many minutes at the start of the second half.  The rest of the game was a huge disappointment and worrying to watch.  Heads dropped, players looked disinterested, showed no passion, stopped trying and gave up.

You can learn alot about players when things don't go your way and too many let themselves and their team-mates down.

Misplacing a pass or missing a tackle are mistakes that will happen and as long as players are trying their hardest it doesn't matter, we can work on that.  When players simply give up, don't try and don't look bothered then that is unacceptable and passion and pride is something all players should have.

At the final whistle Lions had lost 10 - 0.

Really disappointing display, I don't give up my time to watch the team stop trying and stop caring.  We're here to play football, have fun and give 100% effort, we didn't do that yesterday.  Everybody needs to have a think if they did themselves justice today.

Sunday 28th October

Alvechurch Lions v Wychall Wanderers

Lions started the game with Joe in goal, AJ and Alex at the back, Scott, Jake and Jim in midfield and Hiram upfront.

The first half started well, Jim looking lively on the wing, Jake tracking back well and Scottie tackling strongly in midfield.  Unfortunately, Lions were caught out by a long ball from the back which ran through to their quick forward who scored a little to easily.

A second and third goal followed before half-time and it looked like this could be a big defeat.  Defence were unusually both being dragged out of position and leaving the centre open and midfield were guilty of not tracking back enough.  Scottie, the catalyst going forward, was caught in possession to often trying to beat too many players, but is a clever player and will quickly learn  to release the ball sooner.  His tackling and energy are never in question.

The second half was a different team.  The defence were now playing like the partnership we are used to, covering each other and bossing the forward line.  Midfield were digging deep and showed excellent stamina and Jim, now upfront, closed the defence down well and made some intelligent runs.  Joe was showing strong hands to push away some stinging efforts and his kicking was much improved, hitting the wings as he had been asked to and getting good distance on his clearances.

When a harsh ball to hand decision was given against AJ  (looked like ball to hand from where I was stood!!)  Joe saved brilliantly from the spot and then threw himself at the ball three times from the rebound.  A fantastic peice of keeping and brave as a Lion as he received a kcik on the face for his troubles.

With no subs it was always going to be a difficult game.  It was an encouraging second half in which we never conceded even though the lads would have been extremely tired.  Heads never dropped and the effort was superb.

Alvechurch Lions v Holy Souls

The two teams met for the fourth time of the season in this hotly contested cup match.  Alvechurch lioned up with Joe in goal, Alex and AJ at the back, Scott, Jim and Jake in midfield, Jordan upfront and Ciaran and Hiram

Lions astarted brightly, passing well and having the better of the early play.  Remarkably, against the run of play Holy Souls took the lead.  A ball in the box was cleared well at the back but took an unfortunate ricochet and landed at the Holy Souls forwards feet, who scored from inside the box.  Joe and the defence stood no chance.

Lions continued to play attractive football and were rewarded with a great team goal.  Alex winning the ball at the back and playing a neat ball to Scottie.  Scottie beat his man and played a great ball to Jordan who sidefooted the ball past their helpless keeper.

Lions were playing extremely well now and confidence was visibly growing.  They soon took the lead with another well worked team goal.  AJ this time intercepting and playing Scottie in, he turned his man with a neat touch and slid a precision ball through to Jordan who made no mistake with a clinical finish.

At half-time Lions brought on Hiram and Ciaran to freshen things up and continued to keep the ball well.  The defence were working really well, covering each other and looking comfortable in possession.  Joe was at his brilliant best and saved well with several efforts which were destined for the top corner until Broad flung himself across goal and pushed them round the post.

Lions scored a third with an individual effort of strength and pace from Jordan who calmy sidedfooted the ball past the keeper with an Henry style finish.

There was still time for sustained pressure from Holy Souls but the whole team dug deep, tracked back and tackled well.  Joe again saving anything thrown at him.

A great team effort from all.  Starting to play really attractive football and held our positions better today.

Scottie is learning to release the ball quicker and got his reward today with two fantastic assists.  It really spurred the team on and ensured we moved the ball more.  We all need to learn to lift our heads more and pass quicker but that comes with time and experience.  Really pleasing to see we are starting to do this and it bodes well for the future.

Sunday 7th October 2007

Holy Souls v Alvechurch Lions

Lions started with Joe in goal, AJ and Alex in defence, Jordan in centre midfield with Scott and Jake either side and Jim up front.  Ciaran, Hiram and Spencer were subs as a full strength Lions team took to the field.  Which Lions team would show up, the team that battled to a 2-2 draw against this oppostion or the team that tamely lost 6-1 to them.  From the off it was very much the former!

Lions started brightly, passing and moving well and dominated early possession.  It was no suprise when we took an early and well deserved lead.  The ball crossed low to the back stick where Jim calmly moved it from out of his feet with a neat touch and slotted the ball in to the corner confidently.

Lions continued to play nice football when in possession but were also again guilty of their common downfall - not tracking back when the ball is lost.  Luckily Alex led by example and the impressive AJ repelled all attacks, blocked bravely and marked closely.  When they were outnumbered and exposed Joe was on top of his game, saving several well hit shots and turning two dangerous free-kicks on goal away with full length dives.

When we had the ball Jim and Jordan were linking well, Scott and Jake pressed and were dominating in the air and AJ and Alex were reading the game superbly and are starting to look like a solid defensive partnership.

Holy Souls pressure finally told with an equaliser before the break.  HT 1-1.  Lions regrouped at half-time and again came out firing, the midfield now holding their positions better and Spencer, Hiram and Ciaran coming on to freshen things up in this end to end game.

Jordan made several surging runs upfield, the only problem being that he should have been playing defence and when the ball was lost Lions were lucky not to concede twice as Alex was left alone at the back to make two goal saving tackles when faced against three opponents.  This again shows our need as a team to hold our positions.

Holy Souls took the lead with a shot from distance that the virtually unbeatable Joe just failed to stop as is hit the roof of the net.

Again Lions pride (excuse the pun!) and team spirit never dropped and after more pressure and several corners in a row Lions equalised.  A corner was cleared by Holy Souls to relative safety, or so they thought!  Jim was lurking on the edge of the box to smash a low piledriver in to the corner of the net, nearly ripping the goal pegs out such was the ferocity of the strike.  Game on!

It was still anybodys game, the whole Lions team playing exceptionally and pressing for the winner.  At full-time Lions now had the self belief and confidence their ability and play deserved and took the lead in extra time.  Jordan, now upfront, storming past two defenders and sliding the ball past the keeper with the outside of his foot.

Lions were playing brilliantly and it seemed their was only one winner but Holy Souls scored a fortunate equaliser.  A shot that Joe would normally catch in his sleep somehow slipping through his hands and creeping over the line.  Joe had been superb all day, pulling off a string of top draw saves and keeping Lions in the game so it was desperately unlucky that this tame effort beat him.  To his credit, Joe never let it affect him and he continued to stop everything thrown at him.

In the second period of extra time Lions again pushed forward and after Jordan broke down the right he looked up and picked out a marauding run from Scott.  Scott took a touch and with the keeper to beat unleashed a shot that was just too close to the keeper.  On another day Scott will bury a chance like that and he did brillianly to get in that position.

Unable to seperate the team it came down to penalties.  What can you say - penalties really are a lottery, a little bit of luck being the difference between success and failure.  To their credit, all the Lions players were desperate to take a penalty, showing bravery to the end.

Joe saved the first easily and also managed to get a hand on two others which he nearly saved.  Jordan and Alex converted their penalties experly but it was academic as AJ slotted his home with Holy Souls winning the game 4-2 on penalties.

And so another great English team were undone by penalties and other great names added to the list:  Pearce, Waddle, Southgate, Batty, Hancock and Pilkington all stepped up bravely for their team and were unlucky.

The lads did themselves and all that watched proud today, battled for every ball and never let their heads drop or their belief wain.

I know I keep moaning about holding our positions and tracking back when we lose the ball and I think we did that really well in spells today.  If we can get the discipline and concentration to play and hold our position all game we will win alot more games.

We need the ball to score - when we have it lets keep it and not give it away softly and when we haven'y got it let work hard and tack back to win the ball back.  Football.......it's a simple game!!

A big, big well done to all today.

Northfield Warriors v Alvechurch Lions

Lions struggled against a well organised team and eventually went down 6-0.  Not going to dwell too much on the result and just comment on some of things that need improving.

Supporters Man of the Match - AJ
Managers Man of the Match - Scottie

Last season on a small pitch we got away with not holding our positions.  On bigger pitches this season we cannot afford to do this and are often caught chasing the ball or out of position.  Midfield are not tracking their runners when the ball is lost and not holding their position, getting too far forward and meaning our defence are faced with 4 attackers aganst them.

Defenders need to concentrate all game, not ball watch and must mark their man closely.

We play and defend as a team.  Forwards closing down opposition defenders, midfielders supporting attacks but more importantly helping out the defence and defenders following the person they are marking, not wandering up field or chasing the ball.

We all know each other so should be talking to each other, telling people if they are not marking or out of position - constructively, not moaning.

If we don't start playing our position or tracking back we are going to lose many more games.  It's great that everybody wants to score but if we are conceding twice as many then it counts for nothing.

We know we are good enough to do this and are a far better team than recent results suggest so let's show it on Sunday!!

And lastly, when we do score lets see some new celebrations!!

Sunday 23rd September

Holy Souls v Alvehurch Lions

Alvechurch Lions played Holy Souls for the second week running and knew they were in for a tough encounter against a very good side.

Lining up with joe in goal, Alex and Ciaran in defence, Jake in centre midfield with Jim and AJ wide and Jordan up front with Hiram on the bench.

Lions started brightly, playing nice football and breaking well.  Unfortunately they were quickly 1-0 down after a well struck effort which gave the keeper no chance.

Lions re-organised and pushed for an equaliser, Jordan using his strength well and testing the keeper with shots after two powerful runs.  Jim was working the line well and producing clever touches and Jake was picking passes and closing down their midfield well.

Holy Souls countered and scored a second with a well placed shot across the keeper in to the far corner.  A third soon followed as their Jan Molby looking midfielder hit Joe's goal kick back over his head and in to the roof of the net.  The keeper again was faultless, struggling to kick the ball up the steep slope - it was closer to up mountain than uphill due to the gradient.

Holy Souls broke again, their forward beating to players before Alex 'Bruce' Lee stopped his run with what could loosely be called a mis-timed tackle but was closer to GBH.

This seemed to spur the team on and his defensive partner then showed his flair, Ciarandinho juggling the ball 5 times in his own box to rapturous applause.  With half-time approaching Hiram replaced Jordan.

The second half started with AJ slotting well in to defence as Lions pressed Holy Souls, using the slope to our advantage.  A certain penalty was denied as the ref wrongly adjudged the foul was outside the area, even the passing Boeing clearly seeing the foul was in the box.  Decisions will go for and against us and to the lads credit nobody argued with the decision.  Lions were unperturbed and finally broke the deadlock with a Jordan free-kick curled in to the top corner Beckhamesque.

Lions were pressing further forward looking to get back in the game and there was only one team in it, but were caught with a sucker punch as Holy Souls broke to extend their lead.

Ciaran replaced Jake, pushing Alex forward looking for goals but Lions were caught with two further breakaway goals.  The 6-1 scoreline not reflecting how well Joe played in goal.

A valuable lesson learnt - to appreciate winning we need to experience and accept results like this, take lessons from it and move on.  Again I was happy with the attitude and committment shown and if we continue working on our game then we will only improve.

Sunday 16th September

Alvechurch Lions v Holy Souls

The Lions started with an unchanged starting 7 after a fine performance last week.  Joe in goal, Alex and Ciaran at the back.  Scott in centre midfield with Jim and Hiram providing width and Jordan up front.

The Lions started the match well and looked solid throughout the team.  It was end to end in the first 10 minutes with Lions going close on several occassions but also having to defend well.  Joe in goal saving a couple of long range efforts as Alex, Ciaran and the midfield tackled and blocked Holy Souls attacks.

Lions broke the deadlock on 10 minutes as a free kick out wide was drilled in hard and low by Jordan.  Scott anticipated it first and reacted quickly to get the final touch and side foot the ball in to the roof of the net.

Lions then had to defend as Holy Souls pushed further forward looking for an equaliser and forced Joe in to a number of saves, the brave keeper also diving at their forwards feet to deny another chance.

Holy Souls forced 4 or 5 corners in quick sussession, but with Alex organising the marking and Hiram and Jim dropping back to help out the Lions held out to go in 1-0 up at half-time.

The second half started with two changes, AJ replacing Ciaran at the back and Jake playing right midfield for Hiram.  Holy Souls again pushed forward and again Joe and the defence held out admirably under constant pressure.  Holy Souls did equalise 5 minutes in to the second half with a long range effort that Joe managed to get a hand to but it was just too high for him.

Lions heads never dropped and they again pressed forward and were rewarded with a well taken goal on the break when Jim was first to react to a Jordan effort that came down off the underside of the crossbar to poke the ball home from close in.

Holy Souls were now peppering the goal from distance but Lions held firm, AJ and Alex repelling all attacks, Scott's energy closing players down and Jake and Jim tucking in and breaking up play.

Alex then had to be replaced after receiving a kick in the side after another John Terry like block, bravely putting his body on the line.  Ciaran slotting in at the back comfortably.

Holy Souls eventually equalised with a powerful drive that left Joe with no chance of reaching as at flew in the top corner.  Lions were now under considerable pressure but refused to let Holy Souls snatch a winner with more brave defending and counter attacking football.

Alex came back on in the centre of a back three with Jim playing upfront for an injured Jordan and Lions held on for a hard fought 2-2 draw.

Alvechurch Lions v The Warriors

The Lions started the season in fine style with a well deserved, battling win away to The Warriors.

With only 7 players available it was always going to be a struggle but the lads discipline and determination won through.

Lining up with Joe in goal, Alex and Ciaran patrolling the back.  Scott in centre midfield, with Hiram and Jim playing wide and Jordan up front.

The game started at a frantic pace, with Warriors dominating the early play.  They took the lead with a well placed shot beating Joe's at the near post.  The Lions responded by pushing further forward and equalised after the ball bounced around the box and fell at Jim's feet.  Jim coolly took a touch and slotted the ball under the keeper.

After end to end football Warriors again took the lead after a cross was blocked by Ciaran only to loop over the stranded Joe, who tried admirably to keep it out but could not quite reach it.

The Lions never panicked and again pressed forward.  Scottie dominating the midfield, supporting the striker and tracking back to help the defenders hit a thunderbolt that hit the post and rolled across the line.  Jordan then received a pass, cut across the defender and hit a glorious looping cross/shot in to the far corner for a deserved equaliser.

Warriors still looked dangerous on the break but Alex and Ciaran blocked every attack and timed their tackles perfectly.  Alex showing great captaincy by organising his defence and midfield and encouraging his team-mates.

At half time the only thing that would stop the lads winning was fatigue as with no subs they were bound to tire in the second half.  Too their credit they never stopped running.

The second half was like the Alamo.  Scottie was again dominating the midfield, winning every goal kick and starting attacks off.  Jordan was peppering their goal with shots and Hiram unlucky with not to score with a couple of half chances.  The inevitable third goal arrived when Jordan showed great composure to finish off his run with a lovely finish in to the bottom corner.

Their now looked only one winner and it could easily have been double figures.  Further goals inevitably came.  Scottie capping a great performance with a 20 yard pile driver in to the bottom corner and a great pass from Jordan sending Jim racing clear who smashed the ball past their keeper.

At the other end Joe shook off a shaky start to keep the score down and made several important saves.  Alex and Ciaran again sticking to their duties, defending brilliantly and bringing the ball out of defence to instigate attacks.  Warriors did score a third goal when Joe bravely dived at their forwards feet only to have the ball kicked out of his hands and over the line.  There are going to be bad decisions that go against us and I was proud that none of the players argued or moaned and just got on with the game.

At the final whistle the players were dead on their feet after a superb display.

Really happy with a great win in difficult circumstances.  We are now learning to pass the ball quicker and now playing like a team and not as individuals. Our passing and moving is getting better every week

We only need to look at our goal difference last season to realise that although we will score goals we also concede too many.  The whole team needs to defend - forwards closing down defenders and midfielders tracking back and helping the defence out.  If we can continue to work on this part of our game we will have many more wins this season.

A big well done to everybody involved!!
